Amrita’s Mexican honeymoon plans cancelled

Newlyweds Amrita and Shakeel Ladhak were to head to Mexico for their honeymoon on March 14.

But an all out war between the powerful Mexican drug cartels and the government has put paid to those plans.

Says Amrita’s friend, “Amu and Shakeel had planned a 15-day honeymoon.

They were to leave on March 14, go to New York and head to Mexico from there.

However, due to escalating drug violence in the last week, their plans stand cancelled.

Amrita has been to most European cities, so she wanted to either go to Mexico or Hawaii, places she's never been to before.”

The plans have now been adjusted so that the two will head for Hawaii from New York.

The original plans had included staying at a traditional Mexican ranch, horse riding, trekking and enjoying spicy Mexican cuisine.

The nikaah is two days later. “We were supposed to have a church wedding today, ” Amrita chatters excitedly as the makeup lady does her most challenging job ever for the actress. “But there were some security hassles. So we quickly moved the venue to Olive. But no hassles because we always had a standby ready. ” Amrita gives full credit to her sister Malaika for all the arrangements. “I know nothing about the wedding arrangement. It was all done by my sister who put her own life on hold to look into my wedding details. I’m blessed to have such a supportive family. I’ve my wedding today (Wednesday 4 March) and I’m talking to you while my folks are taking care of everything, ” the bride got emotional as her mother reminded her she needed to hurry up with the dressing up. But Amrita decided to get introspective. “You know, the minute I set my eyes on Shakeel I knew he was the man I wanted to marry. It’s like a karmic connection. I just felt it. I had never felt this before. Shakeel is everything that I want my husband to be. And I’m determined to make our marriage work. I’ll do whatever it takes.” Ask her about the honeymoon which will follow the sangeet on Thursday and the nikaah on Friday and Amrita shrugs, “ The problem is, both Shakeel and I are so widely traveled we’ve nowhere to go that we can claim as being our private honeymoon spot. There doesn’t seem to be any place that neither of us has not visited. I guess we’ll just hold each other’s hand close our eyes and point to any part of the globe as our honeymoon spot. It doesn’t matter where we go as long as we’re together. ”

Who's performing at Amrita’s sangeet

Bollywood actress Amrita Arora’s getting married, you know, to Mumbai builder Shakeel Ladak, and guess who’s dancing at her sangeet on Thursday?

The bride-to-be’s best friend, Bollywood hottie Kareena Kapoor! Rehearsals for the big event are already on and Kareena, being Kareena, has also roped in Saif Ali Khan to shake a leg with her. Whether the Chotte Nawab, who is reticent in these matters, is a reluctant participant is not known. What is certain is that Kareena has him dancing to her tune at the sangeet!

Other star performers include Amrita’s sexy item girl sister Malaika Arora-Khan and husband Arbaaz, Malaika’s sister-in-law Alvira and her husband Atul Agnihotri, and Wardha Nadiadwala. Farah Khan, who else, will choreograph the numbers for the sangeet that have been selected from Amrita’s films but which are being kept a secret from her until the big night. However, Kareena will dance to a Golmaal song. And Arbaaz and make-up expert Mallika will dance to Kajra Re.

Meanwhile, the senior Aroras, Amrita and Malaika’s parents, are expected to lead the youngsters on the floor by putting on a show themselves to Disco 82! Most of Bollywood that is in Mumbai on Thursday is expected to attend the sangeet and then the reception the next day. And, to conclude the sangeet, all the guests will dance to It’s Rocking. The question being asked by friends attending the sangeet is what number will Salman bhai dance to!

Revealed: Amrita Arora's Wedding schedule

Like sister Malaika, Amrita, a Christian, has chosen a Muslim husband. And just like Malaika, Amrita will have two ceremonies -- a church wedding and a nikaah. On March 1, there is a huge party for family and friends of the bride and groom at a posh suburban nightclub. The church wedding is on March 4 at Bandra Church. On March 5, Salman Khan’s sister Alvira Agnihotri will host the musical bash that Farah Khan is choreographing. March 6, the final day of the celebrations, will see a nikaah ceremony at Taj Lands End in the afternoon followed by a reception in the evening. Ayesha Takia too is getting married and her wedding is supposedly a simple affair taking place on 1st March by Muslim rituals followed by a reception party on 2nd March in Colaba Mumbai.

Amrita Arora and Shakeel Ladak held their sangeet ceremony on Sunday night in Bandra Mumbai. It was a very small and intimate family affair. Sister Malaika Arora Khan was glowing as much as the bride while Amrita looked stunning in her lehenga.
