Golden Decade Honours to be given at IIFA 2009

In its tenth year, the IIFA Academy has decided to institute a special set of awards to commemorate the last decade of Indian Cinema. It has put together nominations in five major categories for The Videocon IIFA Golden Decade Honours, which will be announced at the IDEA IIFA Awards on June 13 in Macau. The five categories are: Star of the Decade – Male, Star of the Decade – Female, Movie of the Decade, Director of the Decade and Music of the Decade.

The nominations are as follows:

Star of the decade – Male: Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan.

Star of the decade – Female: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukherji, Preity Zinta and Priyanka Chopra.

Movie of the decade: Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (2000), Kaho Na Pyaar Hai (2001), Lagaan (2002), Devdas (2003), Kal Ho Na Ho (2004), Veer Zaara (2005), Black (2006), Chak De India (2008) and Rang De Basanti (2007).

Music of the decade: Taal (2000) - AR Rahman; Kaho Na Pyaar Hai (2001) - Rajesh Roshan; Lagaan (2002) - AR Rahman; Saathiya (2003) - AR Rahman; Kal Ho Na Ho (2004) - Shankar Ehsaan Loy; Veer Zaara (2005) - Madan Mohan; Bunty Aur Babli (2006) - Shankar Ehsan Loy; Rang De Basanti (2007) - AR Rahman and Guru (2008) - AR Rahman.

Finally, Hrithik and Kangana together!

We have heard enough about Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori together. Now, for a change it’s going to be Kangana Ranaut and Hrithik.

On Kangana’s insistence or otherwise, at the IIFA awards in June, Hrithik and Kangana, co-stars of “Kites”, will be waking the red carpet along with producer Rakesh Roshan and director Anurag Basu.

It seems Kangana was very upset at not been invited to Cannes, where Hrithik, Barbara and Rakesh Roshan walked the red carpet and attended a promotional event for “Kites”.

Till now Kangana, who is said to have a pivotal role in the movie, has been missing from all publicity of “Kites”.

To pacify her, the Roshans are keepting Barbara at a distance and taking Kangana to Macau, where the IIFA awards are being held.

Wonder what has been told to Barbara now, to pacify her?

We kissed like real-life couples - Says Hrithik

Hrithik Roshan’s much awaited ‘Kites’ was unveiled at Cannes 2009. The film has Barbara Mori and Kangana Ranaut as his co-stars. The film has a much talked about lip lock between Hrithik and Barabara. Hrithik says that he was comfortable doing the scene and they did kiss each other in the scene like real lovers.

Hrithik says, “Why are we even talking about kissing? Is that such a big deal? Hasn’t our cinema grown up? Yes, there’re kissing scenes in the film, but nothing to make me squirm. In fact, I’d be more than happy and completely comfortable watching those kissing scenes with my wife, son and parents when the film is released.”

” ‘Kites’ is a love story. It’s about people in love. And what do people in love do to express their mutual feelings? In fact, it was Barbara Mori who made me realise how silly we look on screen while shying away from expressing love naturally.”

“We were both supposed to jump off from a rooftop at an impossible height. Before we did so our director Anurag Basu suggested I kiss Barbara since we were doing something death-defying and dangerous and potentially lethal. I reached out and kissed her on the cheeks.”

“Barbara turned around to ask why I had kissed her on the cheek. ‘Given the same situation with your real-life wife, Suzanne, would you kiss her on the cheek?’ I was floored by her logic.”

“And this time I kissed her the way real-life couples would in the situation. On the lips.”

Hrithik Roshan caught on camera using abusive words

He has just been barely out of his last controversy, and now actor Hrithik Roshan is apparently stuck with another one. He has been caught mouthing tabooed words in a video clip apparently taped by choreographer Flexy Stu. Flexy is choreographing Hrithik in his forthcoming ‘Kites’. The clip shows co-star Kangana Ranaut practising her dance steps with a female assistant of Flexy. Moments later, Hrithik walks in and joins the dance rehearsals. At the video’s end, Flexy pans the camera and introduces Hrithik. In response, the star points towards Flexy and says: “This is the baddest m****r f****r in the world.”

Although the words are not meant to be abusive but in fact introduce Flexy as a tough task master, but sadly it doesn’t go down well with many of us. Mystery of Hrithik’s new look

Hrithik recently walked the ramp for Macro Man M-Series, launching their new range of undergarments, but what caught our eye was his new look!

After Bollywood’s biggest superstars donning ponytails - Amitabh Bachchan in Cheeni Kum, Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om, Aamir Khan in Mangal Pandey and Salman Khan in Veer - Hrithik’s caught on to the trend a little late. He was seen at the launch with long hair tied back and wearing dark aviator sunglasses. And the look suited him too; he managed to look as suave as usual.

As far as we know, Hrithik has almost finished shooting for his upcoming film Kites and has not yet started to shoot for any other films. So, we wonder what the mystery behind this new look is?

One theory says that the actor is growing his hair for a song that is to be added now.

The actor arrived two hours late to the launch and though he walked the ramp, Hrithik refused to talk to the media, leaving immediately after the event. We presume it’s because he didn’t want to answer any questions about his alleged link up with his Kites costar Barbara Mori.

The actor is currently living with his family in a 5-star hotel while his home is being refurbished.

Hrithik won’t show off his muscles

Fans were this close to seeing his bare chest but Hrithik disappointed them by not tossing his shirt into the audience during the Macro man event.

A source told us that Hrithik was supposed to walk the ramp, toss his shirt into the clueless audience and strut his stuff.

However, last minute problems, made the actor change his mind against pulling of his shirt.

We aren’t happy and neither are his fans!

Hrithik and Ganesh Hegde create their best work

Hrithik Roshan and ace choreographer Ganesh Hegde created magic with the dance moves in "Koi Mil Gaya" and the two have teamed up again - but this time for a TV commercial for popular biscuit brand Hide-n-Seek.

"The commercial required a radically different sound concept and what Ganesh conceived, composed and executed was brilliant," Hrithik said in a statement.

"Working on the commercial with Ganesh was a gift from god. After three agonising years with damaged knees, managing to justify his genius choreography was extremely challenging. I'm happy to say that this one is going to be our best yet and the entire credit goes to Ganesh," said the actor, who underwent a knee surgery last year.

The TV ad will be aired later this month.

Who is Hrithik imitating of late

Stars often imitate real life heroes to get their reel life roles right. Preity Zinta imitated journalist Barkha Dutt to get her act right in Lakshya. Vidya Balan aped radio jockey Malishka to look natural in Munnabhai. Hrithik Roshan who plays a Salsa dancer in Kites too has a dance instructor who he has been closely observing for the past few months.

The man in question is none other than Salsa expert Sandip Soparkar. Our source present on the set of Kites revealed, “Sandip has also choreographed few dance sequences in the film. Since Hrithik too plays a Salsa instructor, he closely observed Sandip, the way he dances, teaches, claps, etc.”

When asked Sandip, he said, “It was a dream to choreograph Hrithik. He is so flexible and natural. He adds so much more to his role than what is given to him. It is also true that he wanted to act like me as he too plays a Salsa expert in the film.”

'Hrithik is not having an affair with Barbara Mori!’

With tabloids broadcasting actor Hrithik Roshan’s chemistry with Mexican hottie Barbara Mori, Kites director Anurag Basu reveals what exactly is going on between the two!

The facts as we know it:

1. Hrithik Roshan gets along well with Barbara Mori and her family.
2. The Roshans attended the recent Star Screen Awards with Barbara and her boyfriend.
3. Barbara was by his side when he was admitted to the Reliance Hospital at Andheri, northwestern Mumbai, after an accident on the sets of Kites.
4. Hrithik is close to Barbara’s son, Sergio Jr.
5. The Roshans pay the rent for Barbara’s serviced apartment in Juhu, where she stays with her family. They also provided her with an expensive vanity van.
6. Hrithik’s wife Suzanne and his sister Sunaina are reportedly good friends with Barbara too.

That has been fodder for the rumour mills to go into overdrive, sparking off news of an ‘affair’ between the two. “Hrithik and Barbara Mori are not having an affair!” claims director Anurag Basu.

“The truth is,” says Basu, “Barbara can’t speak English properly and has a heavy accent. I don’t speak very good English myself. So Hrithik plays mediator and translator between the two of us (while shooting for Kites). I explain the scenes to him and he explains them to her. They get along very well as costars and help each other a lot.”

Basu adds, “Barbara obviously does not know Hindi and people in Mumbai will not understand her accented English. So Hrithik and Susanne, who are very hospitable people, are helping her get around town. This is her first visit to Mumbai and Bollywood and they want to make it as memorable and perfect (for her) as possible. After all, the Roshans are producing the film. People saw Hrithik and Barbara meeting off the sets, and stories of their affair started. In reality, there is nothing like that.”

With all the attention focused on Hrithik and Barbara, the other actor in the film, Kangana Ranaut, is conspicuous by her absence. Anurag explains, rather bluntly, “The truth is, Barbara has a meatier role in the film. Her character is more important. The film revolves around the love story between Hrithik and Barbara’s character.”

Kites is a love triangle between Hrithik Roshan, Kangana Ranaut and Barbara Mori. Hrithik plays a Salsa dance instructor whom Kangana and Barbara fall in love with at different points of time. Hrithik has also sung a song in the film.

The film has been shot in Las Vegas, Mexico, Maldives and Mumbai and is slated for a Diwali release this year.

Hrithik simply can’t stop raving about Bhansali

After wrapping up the shooting of his forthcoming venture Kites, Hrithik Roshan will begin shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s yet untitled next with Aishwarya Rai in coming 2009 summer. Hrithik we have learnt is super excited to do this not just because he will complete his hat-trick of working with Aish but because he has been genuinely floored by the script of the film and is eagerly looking forward to shooting for the film. Hrithik simply can’t stop raving about Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the script that he written for his film and of course his role in it. This will be Hrithik’s first venture with the Black director. Hrithik has seen Bhansali’s earlier works and is keen to work with him. Bhansali is also looking forward to work with Hrithik as well. It is going to be a hat-trick for Bhansali as well as this will be his third venture with Aishwarya Rai after Devdas. Bhansali was in Goa recently finalizing locales for the film. The film will be Bhansali’s directorial venture after Saawariya. Meanwhile Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next prodcutional venture Chenab Gandhi is all set to go on floors in Mumbai very soon. Bhansali’s assistant Vibhu Puri will direct the film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Vidya Balan and Hurman S. Baweja. Bhansali and his Black writer Bhavani Iyer have written the film. The plot revolves around three characters. It is learnt that Chenab Gandhi is inspired by the story of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, India's freedom fighter who was known as the Frontier Gandhi. Bachchan will be playing the principle character in the film.

Hrithik Roshan's emotional outburst

It was a hugely emotional experience for Hrithik Roshan on Sunday evening (November 16) when he inaugurated the Audio and Speech therapy wing at the Nanavati Hospital. There Hrithik met his old doctor, Ramesh Ojha who treated Hrithik for his speech impairment. In a rare recollection of his traumatic childhood Hrithik says, " All the memory of my past difficulties came spilling out at Nanavati. When I met my doctor who treated me at age 14 for stammering I could barely control my emotions. It's not easy to be a special child. You may be called 'special' to make you feel less troubled about your disability. But only a child who goes through the physical or psychological disability knows the trauma he goes through." Sharing his own trauma at Nanavati was a cathartic experience. "As someone who has a certain standing I feel it's my duty to tell kids with disabilities to chill. 'It's okay, guys. I got over it. So will you.' I think it's very important for me to convey this message far and wide and I want to do it more often." "When I stood there at Nanavati thinking of all those kids who would benefit by the facilities provided by my money I felt very good about myself. It's all very well to look after your own immediate family and care for friends. But I believe money should also be used for the larger good. That's what I realized on Sunday evening. I feel charity is a very selfish thing. I feel so good after doing it. I'm sure those who will benefit from my donation wouldn't feel as good about life as I do, " laughed Hrithik pleasurably on the morning after the Nanavati wing for audio and speech disorders was incepted. Hrithik donated Rs 20 lakhs for the wing for special children. The wing has been named after his grandmother Ira Roshan, the late composer Roshan's wife, and Rajesh and Rajesh Roshan's mom. Says Hrithik emotionally, "I shared some great times with my Daadi during my childhood and growing years. Today seeing my name and hers being associated with such a project, she must be smiling down."
